Opatija
Opatija, an elegant tourist destination, is the centre of the riviera with the longest tourist tradition in Croatia. Its favourable position at a geographic crossroads, its luxuriant vegetation and the mild climate were the main reasons for the origins and rapid development of tourism at the end of the 19th century (The Villa Angiolina was built in 1844 and the first hotel - "Kvarner" was constructed in 1884).

Hotel KvarnerBuilt in the period of transition from the 19th to the 20th century, it still mainatins a harmonious relationship with nature. Sculpted parks, an illuminated coastal promenade (a 12 km long lungomare), and neat bathing places and fountains are the setting for the various villas and hotels offering accommodation for up to 6000 guests. Given the relatively stable temperatures (an average of 7.0 degrees C in winter and 21.9 degrees C in summer), high air pressure and constant air circulation, the Opatija climate has a soothing and reinvigorating effect.

OpatijaThe contrast of sea and mountains; greenness of the parks and blueness of the sea; of old buildings and modern comfort; of lively entertainment centres and quiet excursion places make Opatija and its surroundings an attractive gathering point for tourists throughout all four seasons.A conference centre (500 to 800 seats), 11 indoor-swimming pools, wellness programmes, casino, discotheques, an open stage with 2000 seats, carnivals and festivals, opportunities for short trips in the immediate vicinity or daily trips to the Plitvička Jezera and Risnjak National Parks, or to Venice, are also part of the Opatija's attraction for tourists.
